Steven J. Meurer, MBA/MHS, Ph.D.

Steve Meurer is UHC’s senior vice president for member insights and innovation. In this role, Dr. Meurer uses his background in hospital administration and expertise as a data scientist and change agent to increase engagement in UHC’s comparative data and performance improvement products and services. In addition, Dr. Meurer drives the future enhancements of current tools and development of new tools that will help members improve. Dr. Meurer spends considerable time with the senior leaders of academic medical centers, providing insights for change in operational, financial, and clinical areas.
Dr. Meurer has been with UHC since April 2007. Prior to this, his background included 15 years of health care administration experience, including chief quality and information officer at the DeKalb Regional Healthcare System in Atlanta and vice president of operations and performance improvement at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Langhorne, Pennsylvania. Dr. Meurer has spent time in increasing roles of responsibility at a number of organizations, including the Orlando Regional Healthcare System, University of Pittsburgh Healthcare System, and BJC HealthCare. In addition, Dr. Meurer has taught quality to master’s students at Loyola (Chicago), Rush, Georgia Tech, Georgia State, and Temple.
Dr. Meurer holds a PhD in health services research from St. Louis University, where his dissertation was entitled “Quality Improvement Implementation in Hospitals.” Dr. Meurer also holds two master’s degrees from the University of Florida and a bachelor's degree in psychology from the College of the Holy Cross.
